Foot of Ten Elementary School
My first student teaching placement was with Martha Miller at Foot of Ten Elementary School (grades K-6). I taught general music for all grade levels, two 4th-6th grade choruses, and 4th-6th grade instrumental lessons (strings and brass).

To introduce myself to the students, I wrote a song called, "I Am Ms. Mackley." At the left, you can view an activity I led with 4th grade using this song.

During my time at Foot of Ten, I created and implemented a unit plan on Hawaiian music for 3rd grade. The unit involved singing, movement (both student-created and teacher-created), playing instruments, and learning about Hawaiian culture.

General Music Classroom Management Plan
Rules
- Be respectful toward your peers, teacher, classroom, and yourself.
- Follow all instructions.
- Only play instruments at the appropriate time (when instructed by Ms. Mackley).
- At the beginning of each class, enter the room and find your seat.
- Do not talk while music is being played, sung, etc.
- Give your best effort!
Rewards
- Verbal praise from the teacher
- Helping with classroom tasks (e.g. passing out instruments, leading movement activities, etc.)
- Class choice of activity
- Positive phone call or email home
Consequences
- Eye contact with student(s) and proximity from teacher
- Verbal reminder about behavior
- “Time-out” from desired activity for several minutes
- Phone call or email home
- Meeting with parents/guardians and other relevant school personnel
Of course, whatever school district I teach in will have its own discipline policies and expectations. These procedures will be incorporated into my management plan.

My second student teaching placement was with Jennifer Pappal at the Hollidaysburg Area Junior High School (grades 7-9). I taught 7th grade orchestra, 8th/9th grade orchestra, pull-out string lessons, and 8th grade general music.
